One of the three works in progress posted here is finished. At lest for now. Here are some of the intermediate steps. I wasn't happy with how it was turning out, so I covered a big part of it. Jane calls this phase "monkey-ing" the piece. It means covering a chunk of the piece to force it to go in a different direction instead of brooding over something that is not going anywhere. It might be done now ...

I call them decorative squash or decorative pumpkins, but somebody gently pointed out that they are gourds. So be it. And this is their season. We had a long and warm fall so far - cannot complain.
Gourds make interesting subjects when one cannot go out sketching. So I painted them in various ways. Here are three of my sketches - watercolors, gouache and cottage paint, and collage. Still working my way through the material in ByDesign and I did not have any subjects that I felt compelled to sketch. So what is one to do in such circumstances? Selfies, of course! I had fun with these. The first one was done with Pentel pocket brush pen and then collage. For the second one I used acrylic ink, bamboo pen and then acrylic paint. I put the ipad in selfie mode and sketched from it! How about you? Do you like selfies?
